“Help in a Box” program, formerly “Doc in a Box”, began in 2011 as a call to action to help the Nkandla region of South Africa, which had the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world.
It was founded by Steve Bender who knew it was important to find a way to measurably improve conditions. ’Not just send a check, but send a solution.’
Since that date, the “Help in a Box” program has multiplied into many other projects/boxes.
The “Box” represents a project that can be duplicated by other Rotary Clubs, Schools, NGO’s or individuals around the world to accomplish similar goals.
Together, we WILL make a difference, one box at a time.
The Cleft
At The Clert Project, we find a child in need of surgery and adopt the entire family and community. We provide clothing, toys, cleaning supplies, among other things. The child receives surgery and then becomes the champion of the community, and the child can finally lead a normal life free from torment.
Oral Hygience
Handwashing significantly reduces disease by removing and killing common but dangerous bacteria. This concept is the same for your mouth; brushing your teeth, a simple two-minute task done twice a day, can prevent cavities and gum disease. Gum disease not only affects your mouth but is directly linked to many other diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The importance of brushing our teeth must be ingrained at a young age, just as washing our hands is. By ingraining healthy habits early on in life, we are empowering future generations to lead healthier, happier, and longer lives.
